    Okay, so...
I thought of something: Since we are a worldwide community, we might help each other quench our curiosity on how things are elsewhere in the world.
I mean, we need to keep this civil and not ask too stupid questions.

I will begin with why I created this thread:
Since I live near Paris, I know some place about 40-50 kms (25-30 miles) north from where you can the the Eiffel tower (at night, when the lighthouse light on top is lit).
So, I'm asking myself, in the Chicago area, can you see the skyscrapers from far away, and from which distance? (I shouldn't watch that mutch Chicago PD and Chicago Fire... :p )

    Another question:
I'm seen in the "Something silly to say" thread that you can find shoes on phone/electric lines in the US. Do you see it much, or is this now becoming an urban legend?

In Melbourne you can see the city from Kinglake which is about 50K from the CBD.

Where I live now we have our power lines under ground but where I grew up in Reservoir, the was always someone's shoes hanging on the power lines. Shit, I've seen people clothes and school bags hanging from them.

Sketchier neighborhoods have shoes hanging from power (or telephone) lines. Pullman has none as far as I can tell, Magnolia never did but Queen Anne usually has a few (they occasionally get removed during repairs). Don't get me started with actually sketchy neighborhoods (literally every block, seemingly expensive sneakers hang from lines)!

Here in the Philippines, Cagayan de Oro where I currently reside in, I did not happen to glimpse upon shoes or anything on electric/phone wires. Bit weird when thinking about it :D

I must correct myself after exploring more of Pullman. Greek Row has shoes hanging from the power lines.

When I finish building a custom home, the crew posts a red flag (t-shirt) at the highest point.
During construction, if I find something built sloppy or the wrong way, I will tell the crew to "red flag" that, which means tear it down/out and do it again.
The first couple of posted roof top flags were a joke by the crew, but later turned to a tradition.

    p.s. They make..me..pay for the t-shirts.

We get shoes hanging on the power lines a fair bit in the odd street. Usually indicates a marijuana drug house. We call them tinny houses.
Sometimes its kids being kids and they throw there old shoes up on the lines.
